CIIF 30th Batch Application Now Opens – Highlights of Briefing Session
Theme: Connecting Families for Children’s Better Future

CIIF’s 30th Batch application briefing was held on 15 April 2019, attracting more than 240 participants from various sectors.
To align with the theme of the 30th Batch Application “Connecting Families for Children’s Better Future”, The Community Development Enhancement Fund Limited and The Salvation Army’s Community Project were invited to share their experience of CIIF projects that benefit children and families.
Sharing by Guest Speakers
Mr Dodo CHENG, Chairperson and Ms CHIU Sin Tung, Project Officer, from Community Development Enhancement Fund Limited first shared how they adopted the "community-home-school- business" model – By making use of resources and facilities in school campuses and providing after-school childcare, learning support and other social services to support the growth and development of students and adolescents. Moreover, by recruiting university students in the district as volunteers and extending to universities, social enterprises and business sectors outside of the district, they have also created a platform where families, schools, the community and business sector met, established community support networks which are sustainable in the Yat Tung community in Tung Chung
Mr MA Chak-shun, Service Supervisor and Mr PANG Tsz Kin, Project In Charge, from Community Project, The Salvation Army then detailed how the “So Uk Social Capital Development Project” empowered the community in three stages --- First by connecting “old- and “new-So Uk residents”, strengthening residents’ feelings towards So UK Estate, and establishing a sense of belonging. By forging mutual help networks for families, the elderly and women to assist elderly singletons, persons in families of elderly doubletons who recently moved into the estate. Lastly, by facilitating transformation of roles through different self-help groups among residents to sustain the support within the community.

Dr Raymond CHAN Kwok-hong, CIIF Committee Member (designated Vice-Chairman of CIIF Committee) delivered the welcome remarks and introduced the concept of Social Capital to the audiences. Ms Yan CHAN, Secretary General of the CIIF Secretariat detailed the Funding Mode of the Community Support Programme for New Public Rental Housing Estates while Ms Rebecca WONG, Assistant Secretary General (Project Management) of the Secretariat briefed on the Application Procedures and Assessment Criteria.
