Grant Approved: HKD$ 1,800,000
Project Duration: 1/12/2010 – 30/11/2013 (3 years)
Target Group: Residents, families and neighbors of local and ethnic minorities in Kwai Chung, Tsuen Wan and Tsing Yi districts

1. Objectives

  • To build multi-ethnic social capital through connecting different families, neighbors and community, and linking with agencies from different sectors such as the Ocean Park, Police and schools;
  • To promote cross-ethnic caring and self strengthening among families, neighborhood and community; and
  • To enhance racial harmony and positive thinking at the societal level.

2. Strategies

2.1 Harnessing Families’ Potentials

  • Families of different ethnic groups possess diversified skills like cooking, art and crafts, dancing and language abilities. To develop and harness these potentials, we organize different courses and activities which match the skills and needs of multi-ethnic families, thus encourage the exchange of skills and interaction between family members.

2.2 Enabling Neighborhood Networks

  • Through organizing neighbor-based schemes like “Neighbor Angel Matching Scheme” and “Neighborhood Mutual Support Team”, neighbors of different ethnic minorities are matched and linked, thus creating a neighborhood support network.

2.3 Linking Corporations with Community Needs

  • Through linking corporations like the Ocean Park and the Kwai Tsing Police Force, we create employment and training opportunities for South Asian youths in order to enhance their employment capacity. Besides, we would set up Communal Helping Spots which mobilize employees of different corporations to participate in volunteer work, thus develop multi-ethnic social capital and corporate social responsibility.

2.4 Paving Multi-Cultural Harmony

  • We promote families, residents organizations, schools, corporations and the like to become “Exemplary Multicultural Organization”, such that they would become the beacon of cross-cultural cooperation to promote multiethnic care in overcoming adversities in daily lives.
