Quote from the winner

I am honoured to receive the Outstanding Social Capital Partnership (Individual) Award. Over the years, I have actively participated in various health promotion programs in the community. I have made many friends from different social strata and professions and my networks are gradually forged.

I am privileged to work in the Wong Tai Sin district. Government agencies and non-government organisations are working hand in hand to serve the relatively disadvantaged Wong Tai Sin residents. There are many ongoing projects targeted at various issues and subjects. We have established profound understanding and great mutual support networks in the community.

In order to achieve a long lasting effect after completion of a project, it is important to teach the recipients to help the others, as I believe it is more worthwhile for us to equip someone rather than just do it for him/her. There are many organisations and persons who are willing to help and contribute. It is the question of how to identify and gather them together towards a common goal. Social capital could be harvested and enhanced when we could mobilise all the available resources in the society.

At the end, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my nominator, the Chinese Rhenish Church Hong Kong Synod. And to the Baptist Hospital and the Link, the Choi Wan Good Neighbours Health Network was successfully completed by our concerted effort. The last but not the least important are the staff from Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital and the Kowloon West Cluster of the Hospital Authority. Without their support, no successful projects would be possible.
