Quote from the winner

The dedication of Hong Kong Baptist Hospital (HKBH) volunteer team "Volunteer 222" earned the CIIF Social Capital Partnership Award (Corporate) for our Hospital. Our team, set up in 2012, takes pride in our daily professional work, and added satisfaction in the extra mile service to connect the community and enrich the neighbourhood, in the pursuit of holistic wellness.

We see a hospital an integral part of any economy and every society. While her primary role is to look after physical well-being of each person, her pivotal position stands her in good stead to promote holistic wellness which is more than biophysical and beyond individual interests. The holistic mission of HKBH does go deeper and wider with an "inclusion for all" perspective.

We find the Choi Wan Good Neighbours Health Network ("the Project") an innovative endeavour and catalyst for "inclusion" in two aspects. One is inclusion of essential health knowledge and basic health service information, which are much sought after in an ageing community. The other is inclusion, and uncovering, of hidden social capital in the community, even from among the in-situ elderly group.

The Project created a cross-sectoral collaboration through a gateway in healthcare, which is conducive to enhancing the social network and social capital in the neighbourhood. This attracts volunteers and unlocks multivariate potential of our staff. The social capital of the community is enhanced, which in turn adds to the social dimension of holistic health of an individual.

After the completion of the two year project, with the blessing of the CIIF, we are going to extend and strengthen social capital of school children and their guardians, in the same Choi Wan community. This will sustain the momentum of the Project and grow it into a cross generation mutual help network. We believe local support is the best support. Our Hospital will continue to help weaving social network with our healthcare expertise, with a vision to promote holistic wellness through the accumulation of social capital.
