CIIF Launched the “Social Capital Corporate Volunteer Challenge”
Building Social Capital through Fulfilling Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
The “Social Capital Corporate Volunteer Challenge” award presentation ceremony organised by the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund (CIIF) was held at Chiang Chen Studio Theatre, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University today (23 April). A total of 50 entries from 38 enterprises were received.
CIIF launched the “Social Capital Corporate Volunteer Challenge” early this year to further promote corporate participation in building social capital. Staff members from enterprises were encouraged to propose corporate volunteer services that utilise their creativity and expertise of enterprises to develop social capital in the community, bringing long-term benefits to the enterprises and society as a whole.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of CIIF Committee, Dr Lam Ching-choi, said that he was glad to see that in recent years, more and more enterprises attached importance to corporate social responsibility, encouraged employees to contribute to the community with their expertise or joined hands with social welfare organisations to help people in need.
Dr Lam said, “People from all walks of life overcome difficulties together – ‘All for one and one for all’, such spirit of mutual help is what we call social capital. Social capital built through interpersonal interactions help enhance reciprocity and social cohesion in the community, and in turn furthering prosperous and sustainable development of Hong Kong.”
The Convenor of CIIF Brand-building Exercise Steering Group, Dr Ricky Szeto, was impressed by the high quality of the entries. He said, “Most of the entries are able to foster cross-sectoral collaboration and enhance community networking. The winning entries are especially impressive in terms of social network building, resources utilisation, creativity, addressing social needs and sustainability.”
