The CIIF Forum cum SCB Awards Presentation Ceremony 2020 was successfully held online on 15 December 2020 (Tuesday). The event was well attended by around 500 participants.

Themed “Social Capital for Better Living” and moderated by Ms. May CHAN Suk-mei, SBS, JP, SC.Net member, this year, the CIIF Forum invited Dr. LAW Chi-kwong, GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr. KWAN Chuk-fai, MH, JP, Chairman of CIIF Committee, and Professor Terry LUM Yat-sang, Henry G. Leong Professor in Social Work and Social Administration and the Head of the Department of Social Work and Social Administration at the University of Hong Kong, to share their insights on building social capital with the youth and house captains for a better community from the perspectives of social policy, CIIF’s experience and academics.

To listen to the voices of different stakeholders, prior to the CIIF Forum, CIIF organised two thematic forums titled “From Participation to Contribution – Building Social Capital with Youth” and “House Captain – The Best Partner in Building Community Network” on 21 November 2020 and 23 November 2020 respectively. Representatives from CIIF-funded project teams and different sectors shared their experience in building social capital with the youth and house captains as well as their expectation for an ideal community.

The SCB Awards Presentation Ceremony was held on the same day. To accord recognition to individuals, corporates and organisations which have contributed to the development of social capital in Hong Kong, CIIF has organised the biennial SCB Awards since 2012. The Awards provide an opportunity for various sectors of the community to witness and share the achievements in building social capital in Hong Kong. This year, 7 CIIF-funded projects were awarded the Outstanding Social Capital Project Awards, five corporates/organisations were awarded the Outstanding Social Capital Partnership (corporate/organisation) Awards, and two individuals were awarded the Outstanding Social Capital Partnership (individual) Awards. 492 corporates/organisations were presented with the Social Capital Builder Logo Awards. Mr. Matthew CHEUNG Kin-chung, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration, delivered a speech through video, “Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic slowdown, the SCB Awards 2020 still saw nearly 500 awardees, of which 20 have received the award for the fifth consecutive year. It is very encouraging to see the spirit of mutual help among various sectors of the community amid adversity.”

CIIF would like to thank all speakers, participants and collaborative partners for making the event successful and look forward to joining hands with different sectors to build a caring community in the days to come.
