1. Brief Description
- “Splendid Fashion” is an empowerment project in second phase development. It aims to help experienced middle-aged clothing women to bring their strengths into play, and to be self-reliant. Through the mentorship scheme, it can help the clothes makers pass on their skills, wisdom and experience to the youths, while the latter’s design ideas will inspire the former to make great breakthroughs. This platform brings forth reciprocity, collaboration and mutual trust across generations. The project also continues to reinforce the co-operation among academics, labour unions, business, professionals and community stakeholders for advancing local clothing industry. Capitalizing on the unique strengths of all parties, the project beefs up the mutual help network and social capital.
2. Project Highlights
(i) Objectives
- Continue to empower the autonomy of the participants.
- Continue to ensure the ability and the self-value of the participants.
- Improve the professional skills and employability of the participants.
- Strengthen the collaboration across generations, social strata and social sectors.
- Advance the fashion industry by building up mutual help among design school students, local fashion designers and participants in order to develop social capital.
(ii) Strategies
- Promote social capital through bridging business enterprises, design schools, local designers and related professionals and to facilitate a positive “Paradigm Shift” in the society..
- Garment Fashion Practitioners Association acts as consultants, making use of their strong networking strength and knowledge of professional garment trends and skills. They provide technical support, facilities and bridging with other relevant sectors.
- Make use of the developed local brand name and bring together a pool of talents from various community groups, facilitate the participants and designers to work together through craft and creative designs to create job opportunities.
- Strengthen the co-operation and communication among various groups, organizations and sectors to establish a mutual help network and to enhance the participants’ productivity and facilitate them to become more enterprising.
- Strengthen and encourage participants to take part in the management of the fashion factory; such as designing and planning. During the process, they will have role transformation from being service receivers to active givers and contribute more to the community.
- Develop the mentorship scheme, it can help the participants pass on their skills, wisdom and experience to the youths. The design ideas of the youths can stimulate the participants to make great breakthroughs.
