Co-creating a Caring and Sustainable Community with Young People

Young people are energetic, creative and tech-savvy. Through a variety of innovative platforms, youngsters can unlock their potentials and demonstrate their leadership when they participate in building social capital, thereby making contribution to the community. Speakers will share highlights of the innovative approaches which have facilitated young people’s transformation from service users to innovators, and their collaboration with members from different backgrounds and professions in co-creating a sustainable and caring community.

Ms. Amy CHAN Lim-chee, JP
Chairman of Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association

Ms Amy CHAN Lim-chee was a badminton ace in Hong Kong’s sports scene. After retiring from the Hong Kong team, she graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Sports Management at Springfield University US and also graduated EMBA at CUHK. In 2006, she became the first female Headmistress of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Apprentice Jockeys’ School. She was awarded as one of “The Ten Outstanding Young Persons” in 1995. She proved herself to be an active member in sports and the community services by enthusiastic participation in various local community services.

Ms. Kelly CHENG Hui-kiu
2018-19 Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteer

Ms. Kelly CHENG Hui-kiu is a law graduate and studying the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws at The University of Hong Kong. She is serving as a Member of the Commission on Children and the Advisory Committee on Legal Advice for Unrepresented Litigants, the President of the Hong Kong Outstanding Tertiary Students’ Services Association as well as an Advisor of the HKSAR Outstanding Students’ Union.

Dr. Steven NGAI Sek-yum
Chairperson and Professor of the Department of Social Work, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Dr. Steven NGAI Sek-yum is Chairperson and Professor of the Department of Social Work at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). His current research interests are in the areas of social exclusion and youth citizenship, mutual aid and youth empowerment, and service-learning and leadership development. He received CUHK Faculty of Social Science Exemplary Teaching Award in 2000, CUHK Research Excellence Award in 2011, and CUHK University Education Award in 2014.

Mr. WONG Chung-kit
Founding Director of Under Production Ltd

Mr. WONG Chung-kit is the Founder and Director of La Violet Education and La Violet Charity Foundation, aiming at promoting life and career planning as well as arts development for youth. He launched Dream Plan to encourage others to follow their dreams. Mr. WONG is a Cantonese pop song lyricist with over 100 published songs. He was recognised as a Young Leader and was a Vice President for the commercial banking division at an American bank.

Dr. TING Wai-fong
Chairman of CIIF Assessment and Evaluation Sub-Committee; School Manager and Supervisor of Sun Island Education Foundation

Dr. TING Wai-fong joined the Department of Applied Social Sciences, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University since 1988 and has been engaged in social work education and research in Hong Kong, Mainland China and Macau for nearly three decades. She started to teach the theory and practice of social capital to her social work students in 2002 and she has participated in the first and second evaluation studies commissioned by CIIF in 2004 and 2010 respectively. As she steps down from full time university teaching, Dr TING steps up her social capital development practice with young children and families. She is now the School Supervisor of Sun Island Kindergartens (9 branches).
