Message from the Chairman

The Community Investment and Inclusion Fund (CIIF) has always been committed to developing social capital. Since its establishment 16 years ago, with the active participation of members over the years and people from various sectors, the CIIF has been promoting proactively the understanding of social capital by the general public and cultivating the awareness of social capital as an effective solution to address the needs of the community.
Thanks to the cross-sectoral support, the CIIF has worked out several solutions with remarkable effectiveness over the past decade or so. Among them are, for example, the “Community-Welfare-Housing” collaboration by training residents in housing estates to become house captains and building a safe and friendly community; the “Community-School-Family” partnership by opening campuses and strengthening the community's function of supporting families; and the “Community-Welfare-Medical” participation by consolidating healthcare networks which contribute to mutual help and support for the wellness of residents in respect of their body, heart and mind. Some of these solutions can build up strengths from within, while the others can serve curative purposes to provide remedy to target the needs of the community.
To maximise the potential of social capital as an effective solution and spread its influence, we need more people with aspirations to join in the cross-sectoral collaboration. I am delighted to witness the establishment of several leading models in the CIIF during these few years, all of which have contributed to the higher level of participation by people from various social backgrounds, organisations, bodies, as well as on their own, demonstrating their effectiveness in developing social capital. They have truly illustrated the strength of cross-sectoral collaboration, achieved reciprocity, and, above all, built lasting relationships of mutual trust and benefit.
Looking ahead, the CIIF will continue to build networks with new partners, in order to work out more solutions in response to the needs of the community. We welcome your participation in social capital building, and through uniting the strengths of all sectors, we can build a more energetic and caring society in Hong Kong.
