Highlights of SCB Award 2016 Briefing Seminar
Theme: Social Capital - A New Perspective for Corporate Social Responsibility

To enhance the awareness of corporates/organisations on social capital and Social Capital Builder (SCB) Award, CIIF organised a briefing seminar at the Conference Hall in Hong Kong Productivity Council Building, Kowloon Tong on 20 September 2016. Speakers were invited to share their experiences, strategies, models and outcomes in building social capital in the corporate sector.

The briefing attracted nearly 180 participants from different sectors, including the business and social welfare sectors. Mr. Andrew Kam, Chairman of CIIF Promotional and Development Sub-Committee, delivered a welcome address, briefed the audience on social capital concept and encouraged the business sector to fulfill their corporate social responsibility (CSR) through social capital development.

How can a corporate participate in social capital development: S.O.G.R.E.A.T.

CSR with social capital refers to the utilisation of corporate resources and expertise to not only provide one-off voluntary service or donation but also continue to take part in and even launch some social service projects. Dr. Wingco Lo, CIIF Committee member and Managing Director of Wing Li Group (International) Limited, illustrated with successful cases how corporates can participate in social capital development through various means.

Successful cases of corporate development of social capital: challenges and opportunities

Since 2012, IBM has participated in the CIIF-funded project “Life M.A.S.T.E.R.” organised by the Salvation Army Chuk Yuen Integrated Service. IBM mobilised its employees, professionals and management to be mentors to support youth development. IBM was awarded the Outstanding Social Capital Partnership Award (Corporate) in 2014 to recognise its contribution to social capital development in Hong Kong. Mr. Tony Tai, General Manager, IBM China/Hong Kong, shared IBM’s experiences in participating in social capital project and the benefits brought to the corporate, and also analysed the opportunities and challenges involved.

Details of SCB Awards 2016

The eligibility criteria for the third SCB Logo Awards have been extended to cover all locally incorporated enterprises and public/private organisations. Ms. Carmen Ng, the Secretary General of CIIF Secretariat, explained the details of the Awards and took a group photo with all the guests.
