The CIIF 20th Anniversary Forum cum Social Capital Builder Awards Presentation Ceremony 2022 successfully concluded

The Community Investment and Inclusion Fund (CIIF) 20th Anniversary Forum was successfully held on 14 December 2022 (Wednesday) in hybrid mode at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and online. The event was well attended by nearly 400 participants.

With the theme “Passing on the Values of Trust and Reciprocity”, the CIIF 20th Anniversary Forum was officiated by Miss Alice MAK Mei-kuen,SBS, JP, Secretary of Home and Youth Affairs. In her speech at the opening ceremony, she said, “Since the inception of the CIIF, the HKSAR Government has allocated a total of $1.3 billion to support its work. Upon the Government’s organisational restructuring earlier this year, the CIIF portfolio was transferred to the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau to align it to district work more tightly and develop social capital more effectively. The Government’s allocation and consolidation of these resources clearly illustrate that we value and support the building of social capital.”

Moderated by Ms May CHAN Suk-mei, SBS, JP, member of SC.Net, the plenary session invited Professor Terry LUM Yat-sing, Professor of the Department of Social Work and Social Administration at the University of Hong Kong, Professor Gina LAI Wan-foon, Professor of the Department of Sociology at Hong Kong Baptist University, and Mr KWAN Chuk-fai, MH, JP, Chairman of the CIIF Committee as the speakers. They jointly explored with audience the roles and functions of social capital in the process of community development in the past, present and future.

The Forum also comprised of two thematic discussions titled “Turing Crisis into Opportunities with Social Capital: Ageing Population” and “Turing Crisis into Opportunities with Social Capital: Post-pandemic Era” with Professor Vivian LOU Wei-qun and Mr Francis NGAI Wah-sing, members of the CIIF Committee as the moderators. Guest speakers from the social welfare, academic, business and healthcare sectors were invited to share their experiences and explored how social capital could support the elderly to age-in-place, as well as the effective strategies for building social capital under the new normal. To further promote and pass on the experiences of building social capital, the Chairman of the CIIF Committee announced the establishment of “Social Capital Institute” in his concluding remarks. The Institute will mark a new milestone for social capital development in Hong Kong.

The Social Capital Builder Awards Presentation Ceremony was held in the same afternoon. This year, seven CIIF-funded projects were awarded the Outstanding Social Capital Project Awards, eight corporates/organisations/individuals were awarded the Outstanding Social Capital Partnership Awards, and 542 corporates/organisations were presented with the Social Capital Builder Logo Awards, which is nearly the highest ever. Furthermore, to further promote the concept of social capital among corporates and to recognise corporates which integrate social capital concepts into their “Environmental, Social and Governance” (ESG) policies, the CIIF specially introduced a new award on sustainable development. Among which, three corporates received Social Capital and Sustainability Grand Award and eight corporates received Social Capital and Sustainability Sectoral Award.

The CIIF would like to thank all moderators, speakers, participants and collaborative partners for making the event successful and look forward to joining hands with different sectors and fostering the long-term commitment to promote positive development in the community while upholding and passing on the values of trust and reciprocity.
