The CIIF 10th Anniversary Forum & SCB Award Presentation Ceremony came to a successful end with over 1,000 participants in celebration of social capital outcomes

The CIIF 10th Anniversary Forum & SCB Award Presentation Ceremony was successfully held on Friday, 23 November 2012 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre with an attendance of over 1,000 participants. Multi-perspective Sharing

By organising the keynote speech, plenary session and concurrent workshops, we created a platform for overseas and local experts to collate, consolidate and exchange experience in building social capital, as well as to explore and look forward to the future directions of social capital development. Through participants’ and project teams’ active involvement in the project expo and talent shows, it is beyond doubt that CIIF-funded projects which have successfully built social capital will sustain a harmonious living environment for all. Dr. Allan ZEMAN, Chairman of Hong Kong Ocean Park also concluded the experience of two CIIF-funded programmes in his luncheon address.

New Book Launch

The CIIF newly released our tenth anniversary commemorative book in the forum, which covered ten touching and inspiring stories, including those on how a group of unemployed workers co-found a decoration works self-managed group, and how a visually-impaired youth became a balloon decorating expert. With the assistance from their friends and professionals, they have created their bright futures and turn to help others in need. Each story showcases the magnificent power of social capital. The day’s highlight is the SCB Award - Social Capital Builders Award Presentation Ceremony in which both Mrs Carrie Lam and Mr Yeung Ka-sing, Chairman of the CIIF Committee recognised the contributions of individuals and corporations to social capital development in Hong Kong and commended outstanding funded projects.

This year, the CIIF granted the SCB logo to 121 corporate partners in recognition of their contributions to social capital building, and presented the 10th Anniversary Outstanding Partnership Award and the 10th Anniversary Outstanding Project Award to four corporate partners, two individual partners and two funded projects respectively. The list of awardees is as follows:

Opening Ceremony, Keynote Speech and Plenary session

Mr Yeung Ka-sing, GBS, JP, Chairman of the CIIF Committee introduced the story book in his welcome address.	Welcome address by Mr Matthew Cheung, GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare.	Opening gimmick by the officiating guests.
Keynote Speech by Mr Nathan Gamester, Programme Director for the Prosperity Index at the London-based Legatum Institute.	Professor Paul Dekker from Tilburg University of the Netherlands shared the experience of social capital building in the Netherlands.	Five workshops held in the afternoon with overwhelming responses.
Dr. Allan ZEMAN, Chairman of Hong Kong Ocean Park concluded the experience of the two CIIF-funded programmes in his luncheon address.

In order to demonstrate how they build their networks in the community, project teams make tremendous effort in the booth presentation, including but not limited to booth display, food tasting, site talks and performances.

Drama Tasty Casserole performed by Hong Kong Outlying Islands Women’s Association Ltd. and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. Ms Chau Chuen-heung, CIIF committee (left first) and Andrew Kam, Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (right third) staged the play to showcase how cross-sectoral collaboration could foster social capital development in Hong Kong.

Joint performance by “Caring Estates” and “Lai King Intranet for Elderly” Projects. The song highlighted neighbourhood mutual help relationship and towel dance mobilised elders’ participation in the community, showcasing their energy and caring spirit.
